My Contribution To Imagination Quotes

Reading some of mythologist Joseph Campbell’s work was like coming home for me. It tied together so many ideas in my mind that it was a little like what I believe a religious experience may feel like. I wrote something not long after that which sums it up and explains where the key theme of this blog comes from. I hope this becomes one of the world’s best imagination quotes in time:

“Your imagination is the artist’s palette into which your conscious mind dips its brush before painting your life across reality.”

Your life is a blank canvas. It does not take much to put something on there, but to create something special you will need some imagination at least – to recognise what you have got and how best to use it to create the life that you want, a life that inspires you.

Fantasise and play with ideas in your head – this is your mixing palette – and then dip your brush in and try things out in life – you can paint over what doesn’t work or you can work out how to use what went wrong to make the painting more interesting, more dramatic. There’s at least one key to happiness and that is to make your life the most inspirational story that you can dream up.

Use other inspirational stories to help you. As I explore throughout this blog, stories are metaphors that teach us how to live, how to change and how to grow. Use your imagination – when you start a project and face doubt or fear and think about turning back to what is safe, to the safe confines of your comfort zone, imagine yourself as Frodo facing his first Ork or Neo facing his first agent. Recognise in whatever stories you like to enjoy most the moment where the hero is given a chance to turn back but doesn’t, instead they push past and become better for it. You are on that very same journey and your imagination can get you there by using it to imagine things that will help instead of things that will hold you back – it’s your imagination so you can use it how you will.
